Hello, KC… One of my new favorite spots for a weekend adventure! I probably only gained about 15 pounds in the three day span I was here, but I can say every bite and drink was WORTH IT. I can’t wait to go back and explore more. While I was here for a work trip, I ended up getting a little sneak peek of the city – and fell madly in love with the food + drink culture.
I have to start with the amazing barbecue in KC. I tried two places: Q39, which is a newer, more upscale restaurant; and Jack Stack, which is a popular spot throughout the city. The other classic that was recommended to me is Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, which is housed in a gas station. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with brisket, burnt ends and mac-n-cheese.
The Plaza Area was where we spent most of our time, hopping between bars and shops. We loved the atmosphere in Rye, where we tried one of my favorite shandy beers yet – the Boulevard Ginger Lemon Radler. I would have loved to make it over to the Boulevard Brewery for the full experience, and ventured over to the Power and Light District – next time!
After stuffing our faces, I walked around the city and by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. We even ventured north to Jowler Creek Winery, Missouri’s first sustainable winery. Overall, KC captured my heart and I added many more items to my bucket list for this city – I’ll definitely be planning another weekend here soon.
